Shelter and Street Help Line

United Way British Columbia

Provides a list of shelter beds and services to help people affected by homelessness find shelter and other essential services in the Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Greater Victoria area.

The shelter list is updated twice per day and is available online or by calling the 24-hour help line. Shelters include year-round shelters, temporary shelters and extreme winter shelters.

Young Bears Lodge

Urban Native Youth Association

Provides a 16 week, live-in, culturally-based empowerment program with an alcohol and drug recovery focus. Co-ed services for Aboriginal youth who voluntarily seek assistance to overcome substance abuse and/or misuse is available. The work is founded on the belief that culture is therapy and youth are the experts in their own lives. Services are designed to help focus on the changes individual wants to make and to support them through the process of making those changes. To that end, the Lodge will provide the client with a safe and respectful environment with supportive staff who will provide with all of the encouragement and resources needed to help make the changes that are important. The Lodge is a 5-bed facility located in a large house within a residential community in South Vancouver.

All Nations Youth Safe House

Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre

Provides a safe, supportive and non-judgmental home environment for at-risk youth of all nations to achieve healthy self-determined goals while encouraging positive family and community connections. Key workers assigned to each resident provides individual consultation, additions and life counselling and networking opportunities to prevent further at risk behaviour.

School-based Drug and Alcohol Program

Cedar Strong Prevention and Intervention Society

Provides school-based substance use prevention and intervention services to support school personnel, youth and their families. The program includes youth support groups, classroom presentations, family education and support, help with developing school health policies or initiatives, and referrals for further support.

Saferide

Vancouver Recovery Club

Provides a mobile response unit dedicated to providing safe transportation, within the healthcare system, for clients with alcohol and drug problems who are seeking relief from their addictions.

The program receives emergency and non-emergency shuttle requests from its partnering agencies including the Vancouver Police Department, Emergency Health Services, and the Vancouver Fire Department. Also works in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health and the City of Vancouver.

Alzheimer Resource Centre - East Kootenay

Alzheimer Society of BC

Provides information, education and support for individuals with Alzheimer's disease or another dementia. Also offers support to caregivers, families, and health professionals who help those concerned with or facing dementia, build the knowledge, skills and confidence to maintain quality of life.

Services include individual support, community referrals, and a resource library including books, videos, brochures and information sheets.

Prostate Cancer Information and Support

Okanagan Prostate Resource Centre Society

Provides group support, information and resources on prostate and other male health-related problems. Support includes newsletters, books, brochures as well as individual support, monthly group meetings and public awareness presentations.

Counselling and Support Groups

Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre Society

Provides individual and group counselling to women, trans, non-binary, two-spirit, and gender diverse people who have experienced sexualized violence. Counsellors help support survivors to cope with the impacts of violence ranging from anger and grief to issues including sexuality, intimacy and trust.

Counselling may include safety planning, support circles, sexual assault counselling, art therapy, inclusion support, and counselling for Indigenous survivors rooted in Indigenous healing practices and traditions.

Building Blocks Vancouver

M.O.S.A.I.C.

Provides in-home support to help families who are a first-time parent or will be parenting a child for the first time. Home visits are provided by nurses, social workers or program staff, who will visit the home approximately once per week to answer questions and provide parenting advice.

Services include monitoring of baby's health and development, and answering questions about topics such as feeding, potty training, child development, healthy meals, child discipline, and preschool information.

Aimee Beaulieu Transition House

Nelson Community Services Society

Offers emergency shelter and support services for abused women and their children who are at risk of violence or have experienced violence. The transition house provides safe, supportive accommodation where women can review options and make decisions.

Staff are available to provide emotional support, information and supports for decision making, referrals, safety plans, and links to affordable housing, even if a woman is not yet prepared to or needing to stay at the transition house.
