Wellbeing
Wellbeing is a sense of feeling good. It is central to your overall health.
Wellbeing
Having confidence to handle emotions, being able to do daily activities without struggle, or feeling satisfied with life all point to good wellbeing.
Wellbeing involves many areas of your life. It includes the mind-body connection, or in other words, the connection between mental health (mind) and physical health (body). Wellbeing can also be impacted by, or it can influence, all the different parts of life:
- How you relate to yourself and take responsibility for your own health and wellness
- The quality of your relationships with friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers
- Having a living situation and life at home that feels safe and stable
- Access to nutritious foods and a healthy relationship with food
- The community and environment you live in, including connection to cultural activities, access to nature, and a having a sense of belonging
- Economic independence through meaningful work, school, or training opportunities
- Ability to financially support yourself and family
- Spirituality and exploring a sense of purpose
Staying Well
Wellbeing is something that changes. It is not static. It’s something you can practice and improve. Finding balance can help you avoid too much stress in one area of life. For example, it can help you spend time on the things you enjoy – whether that’s being active, creative, or being in nature – balanced with time spent on other responsibilities. When you are having a hard time finding balance, or feeling overwhelmed by a situation, try these resources:
- Mental Wellness Module: a set of interactive articles to help you work through common problems.
- Mental Health Check-In: a tool to help you think about where you are at with your mental health and wellness.
- Wellness Streams: these four streams – being active, eating healthy, nurturing spirit, and respecting tobacco – identified by the First Nations Health Authority, can help improve your overall health.
