Community Programs

Upper Island Women of Native Ancestry Society

Provides community-based education, health and cultural programs for Aboriginal families living in the Northern Vancouver Island area. Programs include social services, children and family programming, and services that offer cultural awareness, education and support.

Family Preservation

Carrier Sekani Family Services

Offers early childhood development programs for families living on reserve. Support may be provided in the family's home, in the community, or at the office of a variety of other service providers.

Services include support groups, advocacy for legal or court process, life skills and parenting education, family events, support programs for school-aged children, and pre-natal to early childhood development support. The program aims to keep children and families together and increase the family's ability to safely care for and nurture their children.

Surrey Street Youth Services

Lookout Housing and Health Society

Provides a telephone referral service for youth who are without a safe place to go and at considerable risk on the streets. Youth-specific information and referrals include counselling, health and education options, youth shelters, mental health and substance use services, and income assistance programs.

Crisis Centre Distress Services

Help is available. The Crisis Centre provides support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for youth, adults, and seniors.

Child, Youth & Family Mental Health Services Intake (Island Health)

Provides a comprehensive range of specialized, therapeutic services for children, youth, and their families living in the VIHA region (referral-based).

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Program (Island Health)

Provides individual and family consultation and psychiatric evaluation and treatment for youth up to18 years old (referral-based).

Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program

Provides mental health, emotional and cultural support services to eligible former Indian Residential School students and their families throughout all phases of the Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement
