Family Preservation

Carrier Sekani Family Services

Offers early childhood development programs for families living on reserve. Support may be provided in the family's home, in the community, or at the office of a variety of other service providers.

Services include support groups, advocacy for legal or court process, life skills and parenting education, family events, support programs for school-aged children, and pre-natal to early childhood development support. The program aims to keep children and families together and increase the family's ability to safely care for and nurture their children.

Peer2Peer Indigenous Society

Provides community-based and culturally appropriate mental health and substance use services for Indigenous people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Victoria. Services include community outreach, women's healing circles, sexual assault support, and counselling and addiction treatment referrals.

Richmond Mental Health Consumer and Friends Society

Offers peer-to-peer support to adults recovering from an on-going mental illness and in the initial stages of recovery. Services are provided in the community and at Richmond General Hospital.

Peer support workers have personal experience with mental illness and are able to offer support and encouragement, and help with reaching personal goals, more independence and confidence.

East Kootenay Addiction Services Society

Provides resources for youth, adults, and caregivers dealing with difficulties from their own or someone else's substance use. Resources include substance use information, an online video library, web links, and self-assessments.

Also provides referral information on approved residential treatment and detox facilities, school based educational programs, community education, outreach, and harm reduction programs.

Provides free, confidential counselling for children and youth who have witnessed and or experienced abuse, threats, violence in the home, or other relationship violence.

The program provides group and individual counselling for children, youth and caregivers, as well as community presentations designed to prevent violence.

Smithers Community Services Association

Provides low-cost transportation options for residents of Smithers and Telkwa who must travel for non-emergency, physician-referred medical care outside their home communities.

The program includes take-home resources to help manage anxiety in between weekly meetings, and a 14 week YMCA gym membership to encourage youth to manage their anxiety through physical activity.
